Just a quick reminder that the Scouts sections will start back this week on Wed 7th / Fri 9th Jan respectively. The first meeting will be at the hut at usual.

Over the coming weeks, expect to take part in a Town Centre Challenge, visit BBC Berkshire and Reading Football Club, as well as all the other usual fun Scouting activities in and around the hut. And of course, we’ll be planning our Easter Camp too! It’s gonna be a busy start to the year!

More info on some of these activities will be available soon, as we finalise the details/bookings etc.

Scouts Winter Camp 2014

This year’s Winter Camp took 45 of us to Downe Scout Activity Centre in Kent, where we all enjoyed a mixture of both on and off-site activities, in the bright, cold and crisp countryside.

Despite being quite short, it was a packed weekend, with Scouts taking part in a half day of Arial Trekking and Zip Wires, and a half day visit to the Scout Aviation Centre at Biggin Hill, looking at some of the old World War bunkers, getting up close and personal with some of the many aircraft onsite, and taking to the skies in the fabulous onsite SAC COMET 4 Flight Simulator. (Many thanks to the guys at Biggin Hill Scout Aviation Centre)

And of course to cap it all off, we had our Winter Camp Christmas Party with a full roast turkey dinner – and pudding, and an evening’s fun and games!

The following morning we packed up and left site, and traveled to Chislehurst, where we toured the vast underground Cave System by the light of old-fashioned oil lamps, before heading on back up the motorway to grab lunch and return home.

Scouts Christmas Party Night

This week will host the last meetings of the year for the Wednesday (Titan) and Friday (Zeus) Scout sections.

Meeting and collection is at the hut, at usual times.

The Scouts have already voted on a theme for the party…

Wednesdays will be Christmas Hat night!

Fridays will be Onesie Night!

Scouts sections will then start back in the New Year on Wed 7th / Fri 9th Jan, 2015. Look out for our new Spring Term Programme here soon…

Tally Ho!

This week, Scouts from both Wednesday and Friday sections – and parents too – joined forces to take a trip to RAF Benson in Oxfordshire.

We were treated to a fantastic insight on what really happens behind the scenes at one of the UK’s bases, and even got to climb onboard the Puma helicopters and chat to the technicians working on them.

Many thanks to The 230 Tiger Squadron for giving up your evening taking so many of us around!

Zeus thunders in….

A long, long time ago, in a faraway place..

Well, perhaps some time ago, at 3rd Reading Scouts…

There was only one Scout troop.

It was the Titans.

And it was on a Wednesday.

And it was good.

Over time, however, the group grew and as we took on more Scouts we opened an extra troop on Fridays.

The name ‘Titans’ was relegated to history.

And we had Wednesday Scouts and Friday Scouts.

And it was fine.

But now.. the Titans are back with a vengeance!

And joining them – as voted for by the Friday Scouts themselves – we have the Zeus Troop!

Let the fun begin!

Half Term Update – October 2014

So it’s been a busy first half to our Winter term this year, what with fire lighting, cooking on fires, a visit to Dinton Pastures, breakfast parcels, talent nights, DIY, the Golf Ball challenge and Diwali, keeping us all on our toes!

Next term doesn’t let up either, and will see us visiting RAF Benson, doing First Aid, going to Laserquest, cooking nights, Elections, and much more, culminating with our Winter Camp and Xmas party.

A quick reminder of some key dates:

Wed 29 Oct – Half Term
Fri 31 Oct – Half Term

Wed 05 Nov – RAF Benson visit – check your emails! This is a joint night with Friday Scouts
Fri 07 Nov – No Scouts

Wed 12 Nov – In the hut
Fri 14 Nov – In the hut

Also don’t forget that this half term is the final deadline for applications to this year’s Winter Camp. If you want to go and haven’t yet let the leader team know, please do so as a matter of urgency. Nearly all places have now been filled!

We’re Back!! Autumn Term 2014

Just as the schools have now re-opened for their new school year, so too have the 3rd Reading Scout Group!!

We’re back again for our Autumn term, which this term will see us:

Night hiking
Cooking on Fires
Laser Quest
Diwali Night
Wide Games
WW1 Remembrance
and much, much more!

And all culminating with our ever-popular Winter Camp and Christmas parties – look out for details of these events and more coming soon!

Fri 5th Sept – Informal meeting. Games, no uniform

Wed 10th Sept – Meeting at Hut
