On a sunny weekend, 9 Scouts & Explorers headed up to the big smoke for some old fashioned exploration.
It was a busy itinerary, we camped in a gem of a Scout Campsite in Southall, on Friday evening we took advantage of camping near an Asian community & hit the food shops big time. What an amazing array of food.
Saturday was a long day, leaving our site, at 9am, we headed out for over 12hours of exploration.
1st up, a trip to Downing Street and get our all important pics in front of number 10.
The after a quick Tube ride, we headed to Tower Bridge and walked over, high up over the river.
After all that, well time for lunch. We wandered up to London Bridge and into Borough Market. It was crammed, but the food was worth it.
After lunch, it was time for a view, what better way to see London than up the Walkie Talkie building to see the views from the Sky Garden.
Well, its been full on so far, so now for some relaxation, we head to the Serpentine Lido. A great day for a dip.
After all that exercise, well it must be dinner time. Where to go? Chinatown
Finally after a long day, we saw the street entertainers in Covent Garden.
Wow, ok, back to our site in Southall. Long day ,but fantastic.
Sunday , after a quick breakfast, we got in a few hours in the Science Museum.
All in all. A great weekend.

This years camp is a back-to-basics camp, with all the traditional scouting stills, from backwoods food prep and cooking on fires, to sleeping in tents and (weather permitting) hammocks too!
It promises to be a blast!
There’s just a little time left to enter – please see the Leader team if you’re still interested.
Last night on a late September evening, 40 intrepid Scouts & Explorers completed a night hike from Emmer Green to Hurst.
Working in small groups, they survived a lot of mud on an otherwise mild evening.
Great progress was made completing the 9 miles in 3-4 hours. Given the ground underfoot all very impressive.
Thanks to Hurst Scouts for the use of their Scout HQ. With 28 scouts sleeping in your hall, I’ll leave it to your imagination how much sleep was had !
Are you ready for yet another adventure????
Then look no further – it’s time to start thinking about Winter Camp 2017!
This year we’ll be heading North of Reading and up to Blackwell Adventure Scout Campsite in the Midlands – an amazing site with some fastasic facilities.
There’ll be no shortage of activities..
– 3G swing
– Orienteering
– Grass Sledging
– Pedal Go Karts
– High Ropes
– Backwoods Cooking
Transport, food and activities are all included, in what should be yet another action-packed weekend.
And we’ve even hired one of the accomodation blocks on-site, so depending on numbers, most of us wont even have to put a tent up!
Are you interested? Then sign-up below!
Sorry – Entries for this camp have now been closed!
The rain didnt dampen spirits on what proved to be another amazing and successful Summer Camp to Snowdonia 2017.
Ups and downs abound, this year the 50-strong campers scaled Wales highest peak, and abseiled, zip-wired and traversed through one of Britain’s deepest slate mines with equal aplomb.
And when the weather wasn’t wet enough, off they went in search of a more extreme drenching – turning their hands (and feet) to Gorge Walking, Kayaking and fabulous White Water Rafting.
To wrap around this, all the usual fun – cooking on fires, hiking around the local beautiful lakes, trips to local towns and beaches – and you can imagine everyone (leaders especially!) came back in high spirits but in good need of a rest!
Enjoy the Summer Break everyone, and see you back in September!!
A secret agent mission took place at Youlbury Scout camp site this weekend…
The cubs had an amazing time, performing many activities to work out who the secret agent was.
Over 40 cubs took part in camp fires, abseiling, Jacobs ladder, fencing and loads more.
It was a lot of fun, and Akela – we can’t wait until the next one!
Each year we run our 12.5 & over camp, aimed at the older Scouts and younger Explorers. It’s the chance to do something different.
This year we went to stunning Dorset and stayed at a great campsite just outside Wareham.
We headed out to Swanage on Saturday to take on some mackerel fishing. Sadly the team did not come back laden with fish, so we headed off to Tesco instead!
The crabbing was far more successful, but the huge one, taunted us and ultimately got away.
This was all followed by Football Golf – a new sport – and we all discovered new talents!
On the way home on Sunday, there was still plenty of time for a walk along the promenade from Alum Chime to Bournemouth.
Another great weekend, blessed with good weather.
3rd Reading Scout Group AGM will take place at 1930 on Thursday 25th May at the 3rd Reading HQ
All Welcome
This year our spring camp took us on a cycling trip along the Kennet and Avon canal.
Starting from Devizes, we cycled to Bath and then on Sunday we cycled from Thatcham back to Emmer Green. Over 50 miles in total, so a great effort all round.
25 Scouts and 9 leaders had a great weekend and were blessed with some great sunshine and just a few punctures!
