This year, saw a trip to Cranham Scout Activity Centre near Gloucester.
We had plenty of warm accommodation for our annual Winter Camp. Again we were blessed with dry weather, if not a little fresh !
Activities compromised of, Archery, Axe Throwing, a trip into Gloucester to a climbing and caving centre and a quick visit to Gloucester Cathedral, made more famous by Harry Potter.
The evening consisted of an Xmas meal and a record breakers activity.
After the clear up on Sunday, a 6 mile hike in the countryside to clear out the cobwebs, ending at a very windy car park.
A good time had by all.
Happy Birthday 3rd Reading Scout Group!
This years marks the Group being 110 years old.
To celebrate, we had a Group family day on the Thames where our young members enjoyed a range of water sports including Raft Building, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding & Dragon Boats.
We were blessed with a lovely sunny day.
Thanks to all who made this happen.

We are all just back from an incredibly busy week in the Gower.
A great set up with young people and Leaders meant for a really amazing week.
From beaches, to Coasteering and surfing there was definitely a coastal theme.
Other highlights included trips to Worms Head, cooking, swimming, Porthcawl fun fare and the end of camp Disco.
It seems everyone had a great week.
Each year we plan a camp for the older Scouts and Explorers.
The aim is to do something slightly different.
This year we packed our rucksacks and headed on a trip to the South Coast. 19 brave Scouts & Explorers were up for the challenge.
On Friday night, we bussed into Bournemouth and parked up, then it was public transport all the way. Tents and cooking equipment were shared out and after a quick trip to Asda and McDonalds, we caught the bus to Butchers Coppice and we were on our way.
We camped in a corner, in our small hike tents. After a reasonable nights sleep, we packed up and caught our 2nd bus of the weekend to Poole.
After some exploring of Poole High Street, we headed to Sainsbury’s to buy our food for the next 24 hours. We then carried our food to Poole Quay for lunch and headed out of the harbour on the ferry boat, arriving at Brownsea Island shortly after.
We then spent an enjoyable 20 hours on the island exploring. In all we walked 10 miles this day, with some heavy rucksacks, so well done to all.
On Sunday, we headed home with a boat trip around the harbour and a celebratory lunch in Weatherspoons !
A great weekend.

Just hangin’ about. Yes, that’s what we were doing in Swindon for the Cub Easter Camp! We had high winds but this didn’t put any of the Cubs off the high rope activities at PGL Liddington Activity Centre. We had a weekend of fun on the Giant Swing, Abseiling, Vertical Challenge, Crate Challenge and Archery. This was a great opportunity to complete activities we find difficult to do during normal sessions and have managed to work as a team learning new skills and make new friends. The accommodation at PGL is excellent. It was a Residential Stay with en-suite facilities, a luxury which made for a comfortable nights sleep after a camp fire and songs.
Please note that our AGM will be on Tuesday 11th June at 8pm
Venue : 3rd Reading Scout Hut, Grove Hill, Reading
All Welcome
Our Scouts & Explorers have just come back from a great trip to Dorset.
60 of us, got on our hiking boots and hiked along the Dorset Coastal Path.
The weather was stunning, which was very welcome after a frosty night in tents.
Sunday we rounded off the trip with some relaxation riding water slides in Poole.
We urgently need new help for our Saturday morning Beaver colony.
If you can help, please email gsl@3rdreadingscoutgroup.org.uk for more information
This week our Scouts heading out to Lockey Farm for a bit of Sausage making.
It was a fun, educational evening, and we got to keep our creations.
Next week we cook them !
